Meet Jennifer

Hello!  My name is Jennifer and my role at the Oxford Public library is to help provide readers’ advisory services in the adult department.  One of my greatest joys in life is reading.  I enjoy contemporary literature as well as nonfiction.  I love authors who use figurative language and who can change or give another viewpoint.  I am always seeking to broaden my literary experiences.  A current favorite nonfiction book that I am enjoying is The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.  The book is about the nine American young men from the state of Washington who stunned the world by winning the gold medal in eight-oared rowing at the 1936 Olympics.  This is a beautifully written story that is touching and inspirational.

Here are a few of my recent favorites:

  • The Overstory by Richard Powers
  • This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger
  • Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys
  • Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin

Thank you for your time.

Meet Jaema!

Greetings! My name is Jaema and I am Head of Adult Services at Oxford Public Library! I read far and wide, but tend to gravitate to books that are unputdownable, page turners, with unforgettable characters, surprising plot twists and a storyline that keeps you hooked until the last page. I just finished The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles which takes place in 1954, is the story of young men who have reached a crossroad in their lives and are ardently intent on breaking free of their dark pasts. The characters are completely captivating.

Here's a list of my recent favorites:

  • The Overstory by Richard Powers
  • The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray
  • American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins
  • The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
  • The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

Cheers!

Meet Chelsea

Hello! My name is Chelsea (she/her) and I am the Adult Librarian here at Oxford Public Library. I generally read mysteries and thrillers but have been reading more horror and fantasy novels as of late.

Currently, I am reading A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabos, which is a young adult fantasy novel about a young woman who is promised in marriage to a mysterious man and forced to move away from everything she has ever known. Lots of secrets from both sides and adventure awaits. Fun fact this is a translation from the original French!

Also, I am just starting Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. Which is also a fantasy about an orc barbarian who goes from the warrior's life to opening a coffee shop.

Some of my Favorites:

Agatha Christie - Nemesis

Sohn Won-Pyung - Almond

T.J. Klune - Under the Whispering Door
